🎉 pony raises €23m to triple size of fleet

pony have announced a Series B of €23 million to fuel their expansion into 40+ cities, re-focusing on mid-sized cities in France with 50,000 to 250,000 inhabitants. The aim is to triple their fleet to more than 30,000 vehicles (bikes and scooters) by 2027.

An interesting aspect of the fundraising is that La Poste has joined as an investor, and will provide logistics services in some cities where pony operates. This is already the case in Tours, where postal workers are swapping batteries and redeploying vehicles.

The investment is broken down into two categories, €13m in equity and €10m in asset-backed funding. Congrats to the team at pony! 🎉

🚲 Spain pledges €20m to bike sharing

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez commits €40 million to subsidise e-bikes and expand public bike share schemes.

€20 million will be used to improve and increase demand for shared bike schemes. The funds will be used to roll out schemes new across the country, but also to make existing schemes more attractive through subsidies.

The initiative suggests that bikes are to play a key role in Spain’s future, but also highlights the uncertain place for shared scooters. After Madrid decided to ban scooters, it means that Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia are all without scooters, and these funds may mean that local authorities will prioritise subsidised bike sharing schemes over a private scooter services.
