TOP STORIES š„
š« Madrid bans shared scooters
Madrid have decided to ban scooters in the city after multiple warnings given to operators about alleged breaches of compliance with regulations. If Madrid get their way, 6,000 Dott, Lime and TIER scooters will be removed by October. The companies have 20 days to present objections, and it seems like Lime will challenge the decision - saying that the companies were not informed directly, and learned of the decision through newspapers.
Nuestra prioridad es la integridad fĆsica y seguridad de los madrileƱos. Revocamos la autorizaciĆ³n a las empresas concesionarias de patinetes en las calles de la ciudad. The measure reinforces the municipal government's position of prioritising safety and compliance with regulations and - if the ban is confirmed - by the end of 2024, Spain's largest two cities would have no shared scooters.
The City of Madrid expects the demand for scooters to be served by the expanding BiciMAD system, which is hugely popular.
š¤ Wunder Mobility acquires GoUrban
This week, Wunder Mobility announced the acquisition of GoUrban to state their case as one of the global leaders of vehicle sharing software.
GoUrbanās growth was mainly down to the success of its customer GoSharing - the Dutch moped sharing operator that raised ā¬50m in April 2021 to expand beyond the Netherlands. However, GoSharingās expansion didn't go as planned, and the operator was acquired by BinBin in February 2023 for a dime. Since then, Go Urban has been fighting to regain revenues, and underwent restructuring earlier this year.
Once again, it sounds like the latest example of āthis town aināt big enough for the two of usā, and seems to be a win-win for both teams.
ā Cooltra + felyx
Five months after the news that they were teaming up, Cooltra vehicles are now available on the felyx app, and vice versa.
Users can now access 4,000 vehicles in 14 cities across Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as Cooltraās 10,000 vehicles in 9 cities on either app.
