🥇 Paris earns a gold in bike sharing
Currently sitting between the end of the Olympics and the beginning of the Paralympics, let’s take a look back to see how the city’s bike sharing push performed.
3,000 more Vélib bikes, 5,000 more Dott bikes and 5,000 more Lime bikes were spread throughout Paris, particularly around sporting venues. 14 temporary Vélib stations were set up around the venues, some using staff to organise the bikes rather than the usual docking stations, along with rows of Lime and Dott bikes.

Vélib reported a 38% increase in sales of short-term passes in July, proving an expected trend of increased usage during the Olympic period.
Over the 16-day period, 3,465,000 trips were recorded from Vélib, Lime and Dott, an average of 204,000 trips per day. With an overall fleet size of roughly 50,000 bikes across all providers, a 4.1 TVD (trips per vehicle per day) was achieved. This is almost double this week’s TVD, which sits at 2.7.
Trips across Vélib, Dott and Lime bikes
This graph shows the difference the Olympics made when compared with 2023, a normal Parisian summer. The significant disparity is due to the usual dip in Parisian ridership in August in 2023, as many residents leave the city; this was offset in 2024 by the number of Olympic visitors.
