👐 Opening Ceremony success disrupts shared mobility

To prepare for Paris 2024's one-of-a-kind Opening Ceremony, the city created a ‘red zone’ around the Seine, limiting vehicles from moving or being parked around the river. To secure the area, many journeys were disrupted for as much as a week before Friday’s event, including the activity of shared mobility companies.

As you can see from the City Dive dashboard below, fleet distribution across the city was very different from how it usually looks.

Fleet distribution in Paris 25-27 June vs 25-27 July

During the red zone period (18-26 July), there was an average of 203,647 trips per day, across all shared mobility modes. The same dates a month earlier registered an average of 241,285 trips.

🚲 Bike operators prepare for an Olympic summer

In preparation for the influx of users during the Paris Olympic Games, Dott announced last week a fleet increase of 5,000 bikes across Paris, Saint-Denis and Versailles.

This boosts their Paris fleet to a total of 15,000 electric bikes from July until September, as authorised by Paris City Hall. To cope with the increased fleet and demand, 40 additional staff members will be present to ensure upkeep of the new fleet.

Similarly, Lime increased their fleet to 15,000 bikes at the beginning of the month - check out our previous newsletter for more details.
