Je Suis Paul.

An outpouring of support after a young man is killed by a man in an SUV in Paris.

Je suis Paul.

Last week, in Paris, a man was arrested for murder after deliberately driving over a cyclist. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy, not least because Paul was known to many of us in the mobility industry.

The driver drove on an unprotected bike lane, driving over Paul’s foot, before running him over. His death leaves the cycling community shaken.

Paris has been praised for installing hundreds of kilometres of bike lanes and creating a “bike-first” city. However, this rarely protects cyclists and micromobility users from motorists in larger vehicles that do not abide by the rules of the road.

The road is for everyone, and it does not mean that the bigger the vehicle, the more rights you have on the road. We must pull together to fight road rage.

🔵 BiciMAD expansion closes the door on private operators

The door for private scooter and bike operators in Madrid has been definitively shut.

The Madrid City Council cancelled the scooter contracts of Dott (+ TIER) and Lime less than 2 months ago, shortly followed by the cancellation of shared bike schemes.

Today, EMT Madrid, the operator of the BiciMAD bike system, announced an expansion of 235 bikes across 19 stations, serving new neighbourhoods, and taking the total number of bikes to 7,735.

There is no doubt that the cancellation of private services could have been handled better, but perhaps the city should be praised for their commitment to investing in bike sharing. Or will users miss the flexibility of the dockless model?
