✖️ ROI in Bike Sharing

In EIT’s next Mobility Talks, on 18th September at 15:30 CET an expert panel will discuss the findings of a new study by EY, commissioned by EIT Urban Mobility and Cycling Industries Europe, on the return on investment in bike-sharing schemes.
The session will offer insights into the quantification of the tangible and intangible benefits of bike-sharing—spanning health, environmental, and economic impacts—across European cities.

🚲 WELOve bike sharing

A new unified bike-sharing system, Welo, has been launched in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg (DE) area.
In recent months, the nextbike service in Bonn, RSVG-Bike (Rhein-Sieg district on the right bank of the Rhine), and RVK e-Bike (Rhein-Sieg, left bank) have all been merged under a single brand.
Welo officially launched on 1st September with 1,710 mechanical and 332 electric bikes.
Ridership across the three systems had been growing steadily over the past two years, but with seamless access across regions now possible on one platform, the service is expected to become even more popular and widely used.
🔓 UK set to unlock scooter future

The UK government is set to introduce new laws regulating scooter use, following five years of ongoing trials that began in July 2020. These trials, recently extended to May 2026, have highlighted strong public demand and demonstrated that scooters can be integrated safely into urban transport. However, the lack of comprehensive national legislation has caused uncertainty for operators and local authorities, slowing further investment and expansion.
Industry leaders argue that most accidents involve unregulated, privately-owned scooters rather than those used within controlled rental schemes, underscoring the need for clear legal frameworks to distinguish between the two and enhance overall safety.
Comprehensive legislation is expected to provide the certainty needed for long-term investment, better integration with local transport networks, and continued growth of shared micromobility across the UK.
