Today, station-based bikeshare systems governed by strong public-private partnerships help riders connect with transit, expand their mobility options, reduce car dependency, and support more sustainable and readily available ways of getting around.

From setting new ridership records to reaching new communities, this year's report highlights the growing role bikeshare plays in an integrated transportation network.

In French transport policy, the mandatory cycling helmet is the perennial bad idea that refuses to die. It has been proposed, debated, shelved, and re-proposed at least five times in the past twenty years. In 2026, it is back — with a ministerial push behind it that makes it more credible than any previous attempt. And for the first time, the French bike-share industry has formally mobilised to oppose it.
