🛴 Scooters Straik Back in Paris

Straik is attempting to revive the shared scooter market after the 2023 ban in Paris (FR). Unlike traditional shared model, Straik stations scooters at "point relais"—parcel pickup spots at local shops—ensuring orderly parking and supporting merchants with revenue shares per ride.

The company, backed by former Cityscoot CEO Bertrand Fleurose, now has 200+ scooters and aims to have 2,500 partners by 2026. Straik isn't alone; Despii pioneered peer-to-peer "trottipartage" in 2025, connecting owners and renters with storage at concierges and shops, now with 1,200 scooters and 13,000 users. Both dodge free-floating bans by docking at fixed, commercial points, reviving demand post-Hidalgo's crackdown.

📣 Cycling Takes Center Stage in French Local Politics

As France gears up for municipal elections in March, bike-sharing and cycling infrastructure have emerged as key battlegrounds for candidates vying for greener cities. In Lyon, incumbent Métropole president Bruno Bernard, seeking re-election, pledged a "big bang" for Vélo'v: 250 new stations and 2,000 electric bikes by 2027, expanding to a total of 7,500 bikes and 700 stations. Rachida Dati, running for Paris, wants a regional Velib’ system serving the Ile de France region.

Pro-cycling groups amplify the debate nationwide; Paris en Selle, with 1,200 members since 2015, fundraises for lobbying during the Paris campaign to secure VéloPolis network commitments through 2032.

Bike advocates like the FUB and Collectif Vélo Île-de-France urge locals to demand protected lanes, safe stations, and dedicated cycling deputies from candidates.
