⛔️ Prague bans scooters

After Paris (2023) and Madrid (2024), Prague has become the latest capital city to ban scooters, as the city plans to introduce a new transport strategy.

Upcoming contracts with the Technical Administration of Roads (TSK) will no longer include scooters; without legal parking access, scooters will be effectively eliminated from the transport network. However, shared bikes will remain.

The Deputy Mayor for Transport has confirmed “a complete exclusion of electric shared scooter operators from public parking spaces throughout the city”. The new parking zones are expected to be approved by the end of May, by which time new rules will be agreed with bike operators and scooters will have to be removed.

↗️ Velo’V Velocity

Lyon’s new electric VeloV’ are proving to be a hit, and ridership is booming. Previously, the whole fleet was mechanical, but each could be transformed into an electric bike by adding a battery that had to be rented on a monthly basis. This was relatively impractical, as shared bike users didn’t want to carry round the battery with them at all times.

In January, the fleet was made 50% electric with the introduction of bona fide electric bikes, equipped with their own batteries. Adoption rates have been impressive: despite a more expensive membership to use these bikes, electric bikes already make up nearly 45% of trips.

City Dive shows a 12-month high for Velov’ ridership, with the system recording nearly 1 million trips in one month in March 2025.

Lyon placed 4th for most station-based bike trips in 2024, and look set to place high in 2025 with this electrification.
