🤔 Nextbike’s future in Berlin

In late 2025, The Berlin (DE) Senate decided to discontinue public funding for its bike-sharing system with Nextbike when the contract expired, despite record usage figures. Despite this, Nextbike announced it would continue operating without city subsidies, with a reduced service area and fewer bikes.
Last week, the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court has ruled that there will be “no ‘nextbike’ rental bikes on public roads“, meaning that the Leipzig-based company must remove around 6,500 bikes from public space.
However, Nextbike released a statement, saying that its service would continue, signalling its intention to adapt its operating model rather than exit the city.
Suffice it to say that the future is unclear!
