🇧🇪 Is a scooter ban in Brussels a possibility?

Brussels had only just regained control over the number of shared scooters—streamlining the market to just two operators, Bolt and Dott—when a new wave of criticism emerged. The city now faces mounting pressure to go further, as criminals have increasingly been using scooters (shared and private) to carry out shootings or transport drugs. This trend has reignited calls for a complete ban on shared scooters.
Supporters counter that banning scooters would be a step backward for sustainable mobility. They offer a clean, affordable alternative to cars, contributing to lower emissions and less congestion. For many, they are an essential “last-mile” link between public transport and home.
As the debate heats up, Brussels faces a familiar urban dilemma: regulate smarter or retreat altogether (Madrid, Paris and Prague)?
