⚡️ London goes electric

Last week, Transport for London announced that they would bolster the city’s bike sharing scheme with 900 new electric bikes, thus increasing the scheme’s electric fleet to 2,000 bikes by the end of the year.

Having first launched 500 electric bikes in 2022, London’s scheme lagged behind its peers (in 2018, 3 of every 10 Velib’ bikes in Paris were electric).

There’s work to be done to catch up with other European cities. The two European schemes more popular than London in 2023 were Paris and Barcelona; which had 40% and 57% electric fleets, compared to London’s 20%.
