🎱 Let’s not leave it to chance
Bremen's Senate are planning to award the next shared scooter licences by lottery - the justification for which is that there will be a significant time saved in the quality check. Scooter operators are against this for a number of reasons:
It removes any basis for the entrepreneurial motivation to offer a high-quality service
There’s no reason for the current operators to go the entrepreneurial "extra mile".
Companies can’t plan long-term, making it difficult from a hiring & retention standpoint.
The current operators are Bolt and Lime, with the new licences set to begin in May 2025, on a 3-year contract. A citizens' assembly is due to vote on the matter on later today, when we will have our answer.
🎈Party’s over for micromobility
In Q3-2024, Micromobility.com Inc (formerly Helbiz) generated $317k in revenue from shared mobility services in Europe vs $918k in Q3-2023 (-66%).
In Q3-2024, Micromobility suspended all shared mobility services in the US, citing high costs, and the company’s strategy to reduce the operating cash burn.
The company also sold 100% of Wheels Lab, Inc. to a third party for $1.
