Dockless disruption 🚲
Plus, Prague says goodbye to scooters, and 5 huge tenders
Happy New Year!
We’re back with a new EU Recap after a Christmas break. Stay tuned for a rundown of all of 2025’s top stories in another newsletter this week!
TOP STORIES 🔥
🚲 Dockless disruption

Big shifts are underway in Europe’s bike-sharing market, as several cities move operations from station-based, public services to private, dockless bike schemes.
In Salzburg (AT), Lime has been selected to develop the city’s new S-Bike network. The system will launch with 600 bikes, part of a €1.3 million first phase rolling out in 2026, eventually expanding to 1,000 bikes. Towards the end of 2025, Stuttgart (DE) also chose Lime to take over from RegioRad. Starting in January 2027, the Stuttgart region will feature 2,000 bikes, half of which will serve the city centre.
But it’s not just Lime reshaping the map. Donkey Republic has secured a major contract with the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR) to deploy 5,000 shared bikes across the West German region on a 5-year contract. This comes on the heels of another Donkey Republic win — 2,500 bikes in Düsseldorf (DE).
Away from the DACH region, Voi was selected to run new systems in both Edinburgh and Glasgow (UK), marking the return of bike-sharing to the Scottish capital after four years.
As more cities turn to private operators for efficiency, scale, and modernisation, 2026–2027 could mark a decisive turning point in Europe’s shared mobility ecosystem.
⛔️ Prague says goodbye to scooters

The shared scooter ban in Prague (CZ) has come into effect. Talk of a ban first surfaced in early 2025 before being confirmed in April.
Under the city’s new transport strategy, Bolt and Lime have both ceased scooter operations, though they continue to run dockless bike services. And for Bolt, there’s another mode making up for the bad news.
Bolt Drive has rapidly made its mark — becoming the company’s fastest-growing car-sharing market and now the market leader in the Czech capital with a 37% share.
