🚗 Car sharing helps people ditch private cars

Brussels has confirmed shared mobility as a core driver of car-free living, with new data showing car sharing is reshaping how residents move around the city.
A large-scale survey of 2,200 Cambio (station-based) and Poppy (free‑floating) users, finds that shared cars are a powerful lever for both demotorisation and multimodality in Brussels households, helping residents give up private cars while combining public transport, cycling and walking. The study highlights:
How car sharing has helped 6 out of every 10 people ditch their private car
If car sharing disappeared from Brussels, 58% of Cambio users and 67% of Poppy users would probably or certainly (re)buy a car.
For frequent users, 1 Cambio car replaces 6.5 private cars, while 1 Poppy car replaces 11.5 private cars.
Bruxelles Mobilité, Poppy and Cambio validated the findings together and plans to use them to steer both public policy and operators’ strategies, signalling a maturing public‑private ecosystem for shared mobility in the Belgian capital.
🇫🇷 Paris continues to the way for bike-sharing

Bike-sharing in Paris has surged to record levels, cementing the city’s status as Europe’s cycling capital with around 76 million rides in 2025 (vs 70m in 2024). The market has grown more dynamic since Voi entered in October 2025, capturing 25% of the dockless bike-share sector within just three months through aggressive pricing and rapid deployment.
Today, Paris boasts over 1,000 km of cycling lanes, strong local demand, and a steady stream of tourists — a combination that makes it a lucrative battleground for private operators like Lime, Dott, and Voi, alongside the public Vélib’ network.
Vélib’, still the market leader with more than 20,000 bikes and millions of monthly rides, faces mounting pressure after recent price hikes, service disruptions, and fraud cases that temporarily cut its fleet to around 17,000 bikes.
