💸 Brno bankrolls bikes

The City of Brno (CZ) has allocated CZK 2.4m to fund 2 × 30-minute journeys per day for each user of the Rekola or nextbike systems. The budget is expected to last until November.

This is not the first year the Brno has funded the scheme. It was first trialled in 2022, where users clocked up 102,000 trips. In 2023, they reached 148,000 trips.

Lisbon announced that their GIRA bike sharing scheme would be free for citizens at the end of 2022. Last year, to launch the new BiciMAD system, Madrid made the service free for most of 2023.
