🇬🇧 Bolt set sights on London

Bolt has announced that it will be bringing bikes to London this August. Voi entered the market just weeks ago, joining Lime and Forest - who are both operating as some scale.

Fresh from the disappointment of not getting chosen for Paris, Bolt and Forest will be looking to assert and consolidate, respectively, themselves in the capital of the UK - already by far Europe’s biggest market for dockless bike sharing.

Bolt will be launching with distance-based pricing, a first for the market. With 4 operators now in the market, it remains to be seen who will be able to establish a market share large enough to compete with Lime and Forest - and how the city will deal with parking challenges.

 🇫🇷 The French Dispatch

Bordeaux recently renewed its public bike system. When Kéolis, the operator of the old VCub system (launched in 2010), the whole fleet was renewed under the new name Le Vélo.

What becomes of the old bikes? Usually they are recycled (the parts that can be), or are used for parts, or given to charities that make the bikes suitable for private use for communities that need them. This time, however, Bordeaux have decided to give 300 bikes from the old system to Rennes, to expand the fleet of the Vélo Star service.

Great to see disused shared bikes being given a second life!
